Pratt GAUD Exhibit

This is a video of an early exhibition prototype I made for this course.  While the wind created by the fan was originally an important part of the concept, the design was simplified to hanging panels across a grid system.  This was a very early model, but it shows a lot of elements that would later be integral to the mural design.
Study Model of Mylar + Kite String Grid
This was an early prototype of the string and mylar support grid for our installation.  I used PVC piping to mimic the metal piping we had in the existing space, at a smaller scale.  This small test piece was important to prove the validity of the concept, and confirm with my team it was the correct direction to go.  After we saw the prototype, we made a few adjustments.  We kept the mylar and metal grommets, and swapped the fishing line for stronger, more flexible kite string.  Rather than tying off the string directly in each grommet, we incorporated metal turnbuckles connected to metal springs that could be hooked into each grommet and tightened to ensure the string grid remained taut.

After several weeks, we finally took down the exhibition.  Cutting the string was very satisfying!
